We often underestimate the importance of great office furniture! When in fact it shouldn’t. We spend most of our day sitting in our office chairs or typing at our desks whether we are working in our home or corporate office. Therefore, this furniture must be not only comfortable, but also ergonomic and aesthetic. And we have curated a collection of furniture designs that meet all these criteria. From a coffin-inspired office chair to a folding cardboard desk – these innovative furniture designs are not only ideal for maintaining a healthy posture, but are also extremely comfortable to work in and will fit perfectly into your modern office interiors . Enjoy!
1. Coffin office chair
Are you someone who absolutely despises your dead-end corporate job, then maybe we just found the chair for you! Shaped like a coffin, this wooden chair recently took the internet by storm. A Twitter user shared this on September 7th, and it totally resonated with everyone who is completely bored with their jobs.
Why is it remarkable?
The coffin chair concept perfectly represents all the scary emotions employees feel throughout their work day. It reflects the feeling of doom one experiences as they have to sit through yet another pointless meeting that could have been an email.
What we like
- Inspired by Rene Magritte’s painting The Balcony (1950)
- It perfectly captures the feeling of a dead end job
What we don’t like
- While it’s a crazy idea, the design isn’t one-size-fits-all
2. The Flow Wall Desk
The Flow Wall Desk is a great piece of office furniture for spaces that aren’t big enough. It is the kind of furniture that is both functional and decorative, but at the same time maintains a rather simple design philosophy and is also sustainable!
Why is it remarkable?
The Flow wall desk is something that can satisfy all these requirements for a piece of furniture. When “stored” and folded, it looks like a piece of art on your wall with its minimalist, geometric shapes. Initially, it is a flat canvas and when you unfold it, it looks like a “spiral caterpillar” and you realize that it turns into a desk where you can work, read or write in your diary.
What we like
- Multifunctional design
- Viable
- It has a flatpack form
What we don’t like
- If we fold and unfold the desk whenever you need to use it, it means we can’t have continuous adjustment
3. Finding a turning point
This table design idea turns this multipurpose setting into something like a puzzle game, where the pieces fit in different places depending on what you want to use the furniture for.
Why is it remarkable?
Short for “Finding Turn Point,” the FTP table looks like a regular rectangular piece of furniture, except for a semicircle that appears to be built into its top. That orange circle isn’t just visually distinct from the rest of the black table, it’s actually a separate part that can be moved around and away from the rest of the table.
What we like
Moving this shape and changing its position becomes a symbol and ritual that can help your mind shift to a different kind of activity, whatever you decide to associate with its position.
What we don’t like
- Because red is a bold color, the table should have more neutral options for personalization
4. Fold again
Laptops these days don’t really work in laps, at least not comfortably. You can take a folding desk with you, but most of them are heavy, awkward, cramped, or all of the above. Refold solves all of this, except perhaps the clumsiness, by using a material familiar to many DIY projects: cardboard.
Why is it remarkable?
With just a few pieces that can be folded into a relatively thin rectangle, you can have a standing desk or a sitting area or both. anywhere there is room to set up your ad hoc workspace.
What we like
- Features a triple-weave design, criss-cross panel that allows the table to accommodate a laptop, monitor, and more
What we don’t like
- Cardboard also doesn’t do well with liquids, but an optional waterproof surface gives you some peace of mind while also giving the desk a distinct white accent
5. The concept of axis
With this most mechanical standing desk, you can enjoy the benefits of a healthier way of working without breaking your back or the bank.
Why is it remarkable?
The Axis Concept uses a simple axis mechanism, hence the name, to move the larger desk surface up or down as needed. As a bonus, part of the desk actually stays in place and is a good place to put items you’re less likely to move, like supplies or desk organizers. It can even be a temporary shelf that stays at the back of your desk when you’re sitting or under the table when you’re standing.
What we like
- The simplicity of this system means that manufacturers can keep the number of parts and materials to a minimum
- Sustainable materials can be used since no electronics or even plastics are needed
- Spare parts could also be easier to buy, assuming the owners themselves can’t make them off-the-shelf
What we don’t like
- The setup remains difficult to maintain in the case of a multi-screen setup that requires more cables and connectivity
6. D-Tach
The D-Tach is a versatile stool that converts into a small workspace designed to accommodate today’s mobile work culture. Every day, our world seems to become more and more mobile. Mobile offices, working from home and freelance careers are growing in popularity as we move away from corporate offices. With work culture making such a big shift towards a mobile lifestyle, our offices and home furnishings should reflect this.
Why is it remarkable?
Industrial design student Andrew Chang decided to create a chair that fit the bill. The D-Tach is a modular stool design that functions as a traditional office chair, only to be disassembled into parts that provide a small workspace on the go.
What we like
- Transforms into a small workspace
- Fits most modern offices
What we don’t like
- We’re not sure how comfortable the small workspace would be to actually work
7. The ZooZoo Collection
Adding an element of warmth is sure to help employees ease into their new work routine after spending more than a year working from home. And a great collection of furniture could really help with that – like the ZooZoo collection from Narbutas.
Why is it remarkable?
Designed by Annie Lee for workplace furniture brand Narbutas, the ZooZoo collection includes a surprisingly tall coffee table and a complementary ottoman. The stylish coffee table is 27.2 inches tall and features a metal base as well as a smooth top. The coffee table is available in two sizes and the metal base can be customized in the color of your choice. The collection also includes a range of matching poufs available in a variety of colors and fabrics. Poufs come with seat cushions.
What we like
- The entire collection is available in a single color or a two-tone option, allowing it to match different interiors
- Poufs can be neatly stacked under coffee tables and also feature handy storage corners to hold books, folders and other miscellaneous items
What we don’t like
- Not ergonomic for long hours of work
8. Icon
“A floating sphere, a focused capsule, a sanctuary for the senses” are just some of the things Ivo Andric prefers to call his design rather than just a “hanging chair”. After all, the Iko doesn’t look or feel like your traditional chair. Designed like a weaver’s nest, this small hanging cocoon provides a neat enclosed space to relax, allowing you to take a secluded break right inside your office.
Why is it remarkable?
The Iko is made using some well curated materials. Its outer frame is made of machined and hand-surfaced wooden elements, with inner metal rod cores. The bars provide rigidity, the wood gives the Iko its classy charm, and the negative triangular spaces are filled with acoustic panels covered in sound-absorbing wool.
What we like
- Almost every aspect of Iko (minus the metal) is designed with natural materials
What we don’t like
- It may not blend in with the interior of a modern office
9. The concept of FLO
When you work all day at your desk, the last thing you need is a chair that makes work even more tiring, not to mention downright dangerous to your health. The FLO concept attempts to change the equation by designing the occasional swivel chair as a more visually whole shape. Of course, the chair is actually made of different parts that you have to put together, but once connected, it looks like the chair came out of the factory as a single piece, except of course for the base and the swivel.
Why is it remarkable?
This design allows the eyes to smoothly follow the contour of the chair like flowing water, hence the name. Perhaps almost as a side effect, the overall design of the chair looks futuristic and something like a utopian office. The elegant form and twisting structures of the armrests and the curved shape of the back give it an almost otherworldly appearance, certainly not something that would suit today’s office settings.
What we like
- Visually impressive
- The structure of the chair is actually designed to provide more stability and durability, especially when you lean back
What we don’t like
- The shape of the back itself may not be as comfortable after long hours of use
10. The HÅG Capisco chair
The HÅG Capisco ergonomic office chair is an innovative chair design enhanced with a variety of active seating options, ensuring you don’t have to sit still all day! It combines perfectly with standing desks or desks with adjustable height. Available in twelve different wallpaper options, as well as three different color options.
Why is it remarkable?
The chair works well for all kinds of people. Whether you’re a hectic personality who loves to move around, or someone who likes to stretch and do yoga – this chair works perfectly for everyone! It supports every seating position imaginable – whether you’re sitting backwards, sideways, kneeling, cross-legged, squatting or more.
What we like
- Adjustable Height – 15″ to 40″
- Supports a maximum weight of 250 kg
What we don’t like
- The odd shape of the chair may not blend harmoniously with modern office spaces
