The Tecno Phantom V Fold could turn heads with its foldable capabilities

Foldable smartphones are still limited premium outside of China. Samsung is probably the only big seller. To give some competition to the mighty Galaxy Z Fold series, which is already in its fourth edition. Tecno unveiled the Phantom V Fold at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona.

Foldable smartphones from Huawei, Motorola, OPPO and others haven’t really overtaken Samsung in the field. The South Korean electronics giant has thrived on first-mover advantage and squashed the anomalies that plagued its original foldable phones to release a better variant year after year.

How much noise will Tecno’s flagship foldable make in the 70-odd global markets the brand serves? or more importantly, how many of these overseas markets the Chinese OEM will launch the foldable variant in remains to be seen. But for now, what we do know is that the Phantom V Fold is here with an innovative design feature that puts usability in the mainstream.

Thanks to its marketing material, the Phantom V Fold is the first left-to-right folding smartphone. It is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor. a flagship 4nm SoC that promises smooth performance and low power consumption in a foldable smartphone.

Apart from the Phantom V Fold, Tecno introduced the Spark Pro 10 selfie phone and a sleek Megabook S1 2023 laptop at MWC. The Shenzhen-based smartphone maker also launched the True 1 and Ultimate 1 TWS earphones, a Wi-Fi router, a wireless security camera and a few other smart home devices.


Tailored for Gen Z, the Spark Pro 10 comes with an advanced selfie feature for which the phone has an ultra-clear bright 32MP front camera with dual flash. On the back, the phone sports a single 50MP camera and is powered by a gaming-grade MediaTek Helio G88 processor. Along with this selfie-flashing smartphone, Tecno has upgraded the Megabook S1 with a 13th generation Intel Core processor. The 1.35kg laptop was initially released in December 2022.


Coming back to the Phantom V Fold, the smartphone sports an interesting optics setup. The premium foldable smartphone has a five-lens system: a trio on the back and two on the front display. The whole system, designed to make the photography experience exciting, is spearheaded by a 50MP main lens with a highly light-sensitive adaptive sensor. We have no information on the price and availability of the Tecno Phantom V Fold at the time of writing, but it wouldn’t be long now before we have official information.
