Student-led protests target unisex toilet policy: ‘Make me extremely vulnerable and uncomfortable’

Teachers were quick to raise the alarm when student-led “TikTok riots” broke out protesting unisex toilets in the wake of a movement sweeping across the UK.

When protests broke out on Monday, school officials threatened to cancel the Year 11 prom if they continued to take part in the protests.

Similar protests took place at Weston High School in Hampshire, as students flocked to the playground to express how “uncomfortable” they felt using unisex bathrooms.

The so-called “TikTok protests” took place as a nationwide student-led movement allegedly organized on the popular social media platform. Demonstrations were held in Cornwall, Leeds and North Yorkshire to South Essex and Lincolnshire, according to the Daily Mail.

“Unisex toilets make me feel extremely vulnerable and uncomfortable,” an 11-year-old student from Oasis Academy Mayfield told the Daily Mail. “Sometimes I feel like I don’t have as much privacy as I would like because of these toilets.”

“Also, it’s really damaging when I’m not allowed to go to the bathroom while I’m on my period,” the student added. “I feel like I have to fight against the teachers for a basic human right and it makes me wonder if our school is really as progressive as they say it is.”
