Quordle today wasn’t too bad. There are repeated Es in EVOKE and a double T in OTTER, but no unusual letters like X or Z. EVOKE required a bit of brain power and I almost guessed OTHER and not OTTER before realizing I had already used the H, but it did It doesn’t give me huge problems and I found Quordle’s answers with two guesses left.

Quordle FAQ: Everything you need to know
What is Quordle?
Where Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day, Quordle presents you with four puzzles to solve. And instead of completing them in order, you do it all at once. You get nine guesses, instead of the six for Wordle, but the rules are otherwise very similar.
It is played online through Quordle website (opens in new tab) and you can also reach it through the Merriam-Webster website (opens in new tab)after the dictionary bought Quordle last year.
As with Wordle, the answers are the same for every player every day, meaning you’re competing against the rest of the world. And also, as with Wordle, the puzzle resets at midnight so you have a new challenge every day.
The site also includes a practice mode – which I definitely recommend using before attempting the game properly! – and there are daily stats, including a streak count. You also get Quordle Achievements – specific badges for winning a game in a certain number of turns, playing multiple times or guessing particularly difficult words.
Oh, and it’s hard. Really hard.
What are the Quordle rules?
The rules of Quordle are almost identical to those of Wordle.
1. The letters found in the answer and in the correct position turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place are yellowed.
3. The letters that are not in the answer are grayed out…
4. …BUT the word you guess appears in all the squares of the puzzle at once, so the A could turn green in one square, yellow in another, and gray in the last two.
5. Answers are never plural.
6. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess involves two of a letter, they might both turn yellow, both green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
7. Each guess must be a valid word in Quordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for example.
8. You do not need to include correct letters in subsequent guesses, and there is no equivalent of the hard Wordle function.
9. You have nine guesses to find Quordle’s answers.
10. You must complete the daily Quordle before midnight in your time zone.
What is a good Quordle strategy?
Quordle should be approached differently than Wordle. With four puzzles to solve in nine guesses, you can’t just hit the blinds and expect to win – you’ll have a much better chance if you think strategically.
This happens in Wordle too, of course, but it’s even more important in Quordle.
There are two main things to remember.
1. Use lots of opening words
First, you won’t want just one starting word, but you almost certainly will two or three initial words.
The first of these should probably be one of Wordle’s best starter words, because the same things that make them work well will apply here. But after that, you should pick another word or possibly two that use a lot more of the more common consonants and that include any remaining vowels.
For example, I’m currently using STARE > DOILY > PUNCH. Between them, these three words use 15 of the 26 letters of the alphabet, including all five vowels, Y, and nine of the most common consonants (S, T, R, D, L, P, N, C, and H). . There are lots of other options – you might want to put an M, B, F or G in there instead of the H, maybe – but something like this should do the trick.
If all goes well, this will give you a good lead on what one or sometimes two of the answers might be. If not, good luck!
2. Limit things
Second, if you’re faced with a word where the answer could easily be one of several options—for example -ATCH, where it could be MATCH, BATCH, LATCH, CATCH, WATCH, HATCH, or PATCH—you’ll definitely want to guess a word which would limit those options.
In Wordle, you can try several of them in succession and hope that one is correct, assuming you have enough guesses left. It’s risky, but sometimes it will work. Moreover, it is the only option in hard mode. But in Quordle, this will almost certainly lead to failure – you just don’t have enough guesses.
In the scenario above, CLAMP would be a great guess as it could point the way to four of the seven words in one go.
