Forbidden! Man refuses to let friend’s service dog into his home as he ‘sheds’: ‘I don’t want it’

A friendship apparently falls apart because a man won’t allow his good friend’s service dog into his house.

People on Reddit are letting the man have it – though plenty of other people have sided with the man as well.

Sharing the drama on Reddit with thousands of others on social media, a man who described himself as 39 said his friend, 38, “recently got a service dog — a diabetic dog.

The man wrote: “The point arises [when] he wants to bring it to my house when I host hangouts/parties.”

Added the Redditor, who did not share his location, “I’m not much of a dog person and I really don’t want it in my house. It’s a shedding breed and I don’t want to deal with dog hair in my house.”

The man continued, “Also, my kids regularly play in our yard and I don’t want them to come across dog poop and pee.”

The man continued: “I have spent the last 10 years in this house, turning it into a place [where] My friends, family and I could hang out. I have a pool, I built a bar in my basement — those kinds of upgrades.”

“My home is the preferred destination of all others.”

He said, “I offered to meet at a restaurant or someone else’s place and host less, but my home is the preferred destination among all others.”

But he drew the line at his friend’s dog — and it apparently isn’t budging.

He went on to ask the others if he was wrong about his attitude.

His post received over 10,000 reactions and around 6,500 comments — though the Reddit community didn’t warmly embrace him.

Wrote one person — which alone received more than 35,000 “upvotes” from others — “You need to stop equating your friend’s service dog with pets. This is a medical aid device. Would you tell someone they couldn’t bring their wheelchair because you did Do you want wheels to track dirt on your floor?”

Someone else wrote, “I agree! This is a well-trained service animal, not a pet – [and it] will stay next to the owner. [It] he won’t be on the furniture and won’t try to eat/chew anything” because he is a working dog.

However, many others took the man’s side.

The same commenter also said, “He can ask and you can say no.” Obviously don’t be surprised if your friendship changes or goes away altogether.”

The commenter also said of the man’s home, “This is your space to do whatever you want.”

“Your home is your private property. Guest service dogs have no rights there.”
