Drake says he’s trying to end his relationship by singling out his exes in his lyrics.
The ‘Certified Lover Boy’ rapper is known for hinting in his songs that he has dated some of Hollywood’s hottest celebrities including Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and SZA.
While appearing on a recent podcast with rapper Lil Yachty last week, Drake said he regretted mentioning his exes’ names in his songs over the years.
“Maybe I could have done it without, like, ageing people or disrupting somebody’s life,” the Grammy winner admitted during the debut episode of the new ‘FUTUREMOOD.’A moody conversation” podcast.
Although the 36-year-old clarified, “the lyrics are never with bad intent.” He then recalled when a former flame confronted him about a spam report.

She explained that she revealed how this negatively affected her life, leaving her to “pick up the pieces”.
“I had someone say to me once, ‘You know, it’s not necessarily what you say about me, it’s the fact that you said it,'” Drake said.
Sharing further details, he spoke from his ex’s perspective, adding that she told him: ‘You don’t know who my boyfriend is at the moment or what my family knows and doesn’t know. And if you express any form of displeasure at me in a song and call me by name, then suddenly, I’m left to pick up the pieces of my life that I’ve tried to build for myself.” “
Nevertheless, Drake said he has since “done his best to stop doing that,” but his efforts are still ongoing. “I like to be honest in the music as well, so it’s a push and pull,” he added.
During his decades-long career, the Canadian musician has referenced various ex-girlfriends, including Keshia Chante (“In My Feelings”), Alisha (“Shot For Me” and “Successful”) and Courtney (” From Time”).
In October 2020, Drake called out SZA on his song “Mr. Right Now,” rapping, “Yeah, he said he wanna fuck some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I was dating SZA in ’08.”
Just two years before that, he hinted at his relationship with J.Lo on “Diplomatic Immunity,” saying, “2010 was when I lost my halo/2017, I lost a J.”
In December, the superstar sparked controversy on social media when his viral “Previous engagements” was the necklace revealed on Instagramwith 42 diamonds engagement ring from the engagements that Drake “never did”.
Later, explaining that the piece was not meant to be taken literally, he shared it an episode of Barstool Sports in February that “it was more of just a joke, but obviously people took it literally.”
Drake added, “I was just trying to have an interesting story.”
