Andrew Garfield is set to present at the 2023 Oscars, so we all know what that means: the internet will soon be abuzz over his fateful red carpet interview with comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg, leaving fans everywhere reeling.
This week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the list of presenters for this year’s awards ceremony. Luckily, Garfield has joined the list of stars set to take the stage at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 12. Thank goodness, because we’ve all gone hungry this awards season without Andrew Garfield being nominated for his role as composer/detective/evangelical televangelist.
In case you haven’t seen one of the many thirst tweets dedicated to Amazing Spider-Man star (and there are loads), the internet is obsessed with Garfield. In fact, some might call him the internet boyfriend: the affectionate nickname fans give to male celebrities who exude Golden Retriever energy. While the title has been given to many actors in years past – Pedro Pascal, Oscar Isaac, Logan Lerman, Ryan Gosling and even Pete Davidson – no one embodies the role quite like Garfield.
Since he rose to fame with his role as Eduardo Saverin in the 2010 drama The social networkand what a strong debut it was, Garfield has won hearts with his red carpet appearances and late night talk show appearances.
More recently, TikTok users found themselves tapping their feet in the air when they watched YouTube comedian-turned-red-carpet-presenter Amelia Dimoldenberg interview the star on the U.K. GQ’s Men of the Year event last November. In a clip of their flirtatious exchange, which has been viewed on Twitter more than 10 million times, Garfield tells Dimoldenberg that he’s a fan of her popular YouTube series, Chicken shop date – in which he awkwardly interviews celebrities over some fried chicken.
Dimoldenberg admits to Garfield that she’s been trying to date him for some time, though it’s unclear if she meant a booking deal on her show or the classic dinner and a movie.
“You have dates with a lot of people,” he replies wryly.
Oh, the sweet happiness of being an attractive man with all the confidence in the world.
The red carpet interview continued as most red carpet interviews do. Diemoldenberg told Garfield that she has a picture of him as her phone background, he told her that she looked very beautiful in her dress. Everyone figuratively died.
The two then talked it out again at the 2023 Golden Globes, where—I can tell—Garfield looked a lot more disappointed to see Dimoldenberg than they had last met. Was it because the two had undeniable chemistry or just because Garfield gets along with everyone? In fact, the British actor would simply chalk up his amorous personality to his Leo sign. Yes, Garfield is also an astrology girl.
The Tick, Tick… Boom! The star is fully aware of his Big Three Signs (he’s a Leo sun, Aquarius Moon, Pisces rising) which can only mean two things: he has a genuine affinity for astrology, or he had an ex-girlfriend who did. We will choose to believe the first.
He showed off his astrology expertise at last year’s Oscars when he said that people who are Virgos are control freaks. Last year, a Vanity fair The profile described him as a “part-time Los Angeles resident who practices astrology.” In a May 2021 BuzzFeed video, he said that as a Leo, he likes compliments. Garfield even told Dimoldenberg about their astrological compatibility during their Golden Globes red carpet interview, proving he’s just like me on every date.
Garfield is also a big fan RuPaul’s Drag Race, and he once offered to play Meryl Streep in the show’s “Snatch Game” segment, if you weren’t already convinced he’s boyfriend material.
Unlucky for us, the Under the banner of heaven The star keeps his real relationships private. Garfield was more famous with his Amazing Spider-Man co-starred with Emma Stone for four years, continuing Peter Parker’s ongoing trend of dating their real-life love interests.
He was most recently linked to model Alyssa Miller in November 2021. They made their first public appearance as a couple at the SAG Awards in February 2022, but reportedly split in April of last year. Garfield was then rumored to have made it Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor at the GQ Awards, but nothing is confirmed. However, this would be a couple straight out of a Jane Austen film adaptation.
With the 2023 Oscars fast approaching, there’s bound to be a slew of handsome heartthrobs looking to dethrone Andrew Garfield as the Internet’s boyfriend (Paul Mescal, we’re looking at you). But rest assured, Andrew Garfield remains king.
