The first major championship of the year, the 2023 Masters, will begin at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday, April 6. The 2023 Masters is one of golf’s four major championships, and every event featuring Tiger Woods is must-see television. The 82-time PGA Tour champion is expected to make just his second appearance since the Open Championship last July. If Woods plays, he will be part of a loaded 2023 Masters field that includes other majors such as Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler is the defending Masters champion, but Rahm is the 7-1 favorite, according to the latest 2023 Masters odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Rahm has secured three PGA Tour wins already this season, but can he claim his first green jacket at Augusta National in April? McIlroy is next in line on the PGA odds table at 8-1, while Woods is a distant 55-1. Before you lock in your picks for the 2023 Masters, be sure to check out the golf predictions and projected rankings from the tested computer model at SportsLine.
SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model has risen over $8,400 in its best bets since the restart, closing tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm to finish atop the leaderboard at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express in 2023. The model also included JT Poston among its best bets to win the 2022 John Deere Classic. That bet went to +5500, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,100. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first major championship victory of his career heading into the weekend.
In addition, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa outright winning the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. The model was also all over Rahm’s (10-1) first career championship win at the 2021 US Open. Rahm was two moves away from the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.
That same model has also nailed eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns.
Now that the 2023 Masters field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times and the results were astounding. Head over to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top Masters 2023 Predictions
A big surprise the model calls for in the 2023 Masters: Jordan Spieth, a three-time major champion and one of the top favorites, is playing hard at Augusta National and doesn’t even crack the top 25. Spieth won the Masters in 2015, but finished 46th or worse in two of his last three starts at Augusta, which includes a missed cut in 2022.
Additionally, Spieth has been inaccurate off the tee this season, which could cause serious problems at the 2023 Masters. In fact, the 13-time PGA Tour champion currently sits outside the top 125 in total driving (228) and driving accuracy rate ( 53.39%). He also ranks outside the top 75 in batting average (1.754), one-foot percentage (40.05%) and slugging percentage (-.114). He’s not a strong pick to win it all, and there are much better values in the 2023 Masters field.
The model also revealed where Tiger will finish in the 2023 Masters. Woods made his only start of the season at the Genesis Invitational in February, making the cut and securing 45th place.
Woods has won the Masters five times in his career, most recently in 2019. The 15-time major champion has made 25 starts at Augusta National, missing the cut just once as an amateur in 1996. Woods made the cut at the Masters in 2022, but finished 47th after posting rounds of 78 over the weekend. The model just closed the amazing selections of the Tiger Woods Masters here.
How to make Masters 2023 selections
The model also targets five golfers with odds of 20-1 or greater to make amazing drives. Anyone advocating these long shots could hit them hard. You can see only the PGA options of the model here.
